Since the beginning of the 21st century McDonalds, Burger King and several other fast food chains began to expand worldwide. Healthy eating and staying fit has become increasingly difficult to achieve. Obesity has practically doubled its percentage in the past decade. Health insurance policies are on the rise, and gyms are lowering entrance fees to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle. With all of these tasty preservatives surrounding us, how do we stay fit in a world filled with so many bad choices?

Switch up your eating habits by turning down those sweet or salty foods, and try a couple fruits and vegetables. Sweet and salty foods lead to nothing but a couple of clogged arteries, high blood sugar, mood swings, and even dehydration. Battle these illnesses (despite your family history) the natural way. Vegetables provide an assortment of vitamins and minerals that help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Eating more veggies will strengthen your immune system, while decreasing your weight. The colors of several different fruits and vegetables distribute nutrients that fight against strain and sickness throughout your body. Therefore, attempt to demonstrate all those different colors on your dinner plate.

Drinking eight glasses of water a day will provide your body with what it needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle. People choose to take in extra calories by drinking a can of soda, or a variety of concentrated juice beverages. Consumers choose these types of drinks because they say it “tastes good”. Just because something tastes good does not signify that it is actually good for you. Thousands of different chemicals and artificial preservatives are added to these beverages. The addition of these ingredients helps the items to hold a longer shelf life at your local supermarket. Drinking water will help you lose weight, especially if consumed before a large meal. In result, this will help you eat a smaller portion of food because you are already partially full.

Reducing your portions and taking your time while eating will eventually regulate your food intake. Portion control is one of the most significant steps to take when achieving your ideal weight. Pizza, chicken wings, pasta, and even a cheeseburger once in a while will not make you become suddenly obese overnight. Over a longer period of time all of these “comfort foods” will catch up to you. When you order a dinner cut it in half and save the rest for later. Order a salad and split an entrée when dining out. Balancing out the good calories and the bad calories will help maintain body weight. Even though eating bad foods every once in a while is completely acceptable, you don’t want to binge eat these negative foods more than once or twice a week.

Obtaining a gym membership or getting one hour of exercise at least three times a week will also help drop surplus weight. Don’t fall for those weight loss commercials or supplementary diet pills. There are some weight loss pills that are not even approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). What we see on television is only meant to make us believe these products will actually assist us on becoming “perfect”. There is no such thing as perfect because you are what you eat.

So do not make yourself believe you need to look like someone else. You are who you are, and if you want to lose weight do it for your own health. The way you will feel while cutting those calories, and consuming a hearty meal will be remarkable. The only person who can influence you is your own willpower.
