11 Remedies to Get Rid of a Sore Throat Naturally

1. Warm Salt Water Gargle

Even a child knows about gargling with warm salt water when there is some pain in his throat. Many of us remember our days when our moms ask us to gargle with warm salt water during cough and cold. Even eating becomes the most painful practise during days of sore throat. Warm salt water helps to reduce swelling by shrinking the swollen area and gives lots of comfort and relief. It cleans the throat and also washes the mucous from mouth.

Heat one glass of water and make it warm enough to be tolerated by your mouth. Add half to quarter teaspoon of salt in warm water and mix well. Gargle with this water in regular intervals for 3 to 4 times in a day. This will give you instant relief from sore throat.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey

Along with many benefits of apple cider vinegar it works well on your sore throat also. When mixed with honey apple cider vinegar is very useful for treating sore throat. It has high amount of acidity which is helpful to kill bacteria causes swelling and honey works well to soothing the sore throat.

Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey in 1 cup of warm water. Drink this slowly and make sure it remains warm while you drink. If you can’t drink it because of the strong taste apple vinegar has. Gargle with this warm drink once daily.

3. Suck Garlic Clove

Garlic is one product easily found in your kitchen known to deliver multiple health benefits. Although sucking a raw garlic clove will make your mouth smells bad but it is one of the best remedy for your sore throat. Sucking a piece of garlic is beneficial for your swallowed throat. Compound called allicin found in garlic act on bacteria that cause pain and irritation in throat.

Put one piece of garlic clove each in both sides of mouth and sucks it. Suck it slowly and occasionally crush the cloves with teeth that will release the allicin. Don’t do this more than once as excess garlic will cause heart burn.

4. Honey and Lemon Juice

Drinking juice made from honey and lemon and is not only beneficial for sore throat but also protects from common health ailments. It can’t get more natural than using honey and lemon. Both are natural products, honey comes from bees and lemons grow on tree. So make a habit of drinking honey and lemon juice every morning empty stomach. Regular intake of it will boost your immune system and makes your body strong enough to fight with bacteria cause’s throat infections and cold flu.

Mix one tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm water along with a squeeze of half lemon in it. Drink this every morning on an empty stomach and stay fit and healthy. To add to taste you can mix a pinch of cinnamon powder also.

5. Get Some Steam

Steam is an easy and effective way to get relief from painful throat. It melts congestion and clears mucus to make it easy to breathe. Good news is that you do not need to go to anywhere else because you can take the advantage of steam in your room.

Boil about a mug full of water in a pan on your gas stove. Make sure water you boiled it properly. Pour the boiled water in bath mug and put the mug on table. Lean over the mug and start taking the steam coming from boiled water. Cover your head with a bath towel to make a tent to store steam. It is good to do while you going to bed because you are advised not to go in open air after taking steam.

6. Cayenne Pepper Gargle

Just like other hot peppers cayenne pepper can burn your tongue but it is one useful way to get rid of sore throat. All hot peppers contain capsaicin which is chemical compound known to give temporary relief from pain. The process being same just like salt water gargle you have to gargle with warm water mixed with cayenne powder.

Take a glass of hot water glass and mix a big size pinch to half teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder in it. Be careful in regard to its quantity and more pepper can burn your throat. Optionally you can add a tablespoon of honey to lessen pepper burn. Stir it well and gargle while water is still warm enough. This will help your throat.

7. Drink Fluids and Take Rest

Drinking plenty of water along with natural fluids is beneficial for overall health. It is always recommended to drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day. Along with water you can drink fruit juices like orange juice, sweat lime juice etc. Drinking fluids rich in vitamin C will help to thin out secretions in the throat causing discomfort. 9. Cinnamon Drink

Although you will avoid all kinds of spicy foods when your throat is not normal but cinnamon is one spice that will give you relieve from throat pain. The high amount of antioxidants found in cinnamon and beautiful aroma open up the sinuses and makes you breathe easy which results in lower mucus production. One of the easy and useful ways of using cinnamon is to mix it with water. Either boil its sticks in water or mix cinnamon powder in water.

Boil 2 to 3 small to medium cinnamon sticks in 1 glass of water for 2 to 3 minutes. Strain the water and remove the sticks and drink the water once in a day. Alternately you can make herbal green tea with cinnamon water.

10. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is a natural pain killer and is useful remedy for sore throat. Bunch of its components kills the bacteria causing infection and irritation in throat. Besides drinking chamomile tea is useful for weight loss and overall health.

Boil one cup of water and add one bag of chamomile tea. Cover the cup and let it rest for 10 minutes. Now add some honey and lemon for taste. Sip it slowly.

11. Suck Licorice (Mulethi)

Licorice popularly known as “mulethi” in India is an ancient ayurvedic herb for treatment of sore throat. It is being used from ages to get relief from sore throat pains in Indian subcontinent. You can either suck a root of mulethi or can make a drink.

Boil some root sticks of licorice in water and drink it sips. Put a piece of licorice root in your mouth and suck it while doing your normal work.
